I settled in. Actually unpacked my brand new microphone and set it up with the laptop and Garage Band. All systems go.
My host, Rayna, picked me up at 5:00 and gave me a tour of the town before we settled in to dinner at one of Lawrence's many restaurants. The pasta was homemade. The conversation fascinating. We talked for four hours.
I was the first other host that Rayna had talked to. As far as she knows, there is no active host community in Lawrence. She had to figure out her hosting technique by herself, with some painful lessons along the way. Her experience with the Mother Ship - Airbnb corporate - had not been respectful.
It occurred to me as we were talking, that most Airbnb hosts are isolated and, for the most part, powerless when it comes to dealing with corporate.
I think I've been in a bubble.
